Accelerating Migration at Scale Using AWS Application Migration Service with 3M Company

3M needed to migrate nearly all of its aging enterprise workloads from on-premises data centers to the cloud at scale, with minimal downtime and within a tight timeline. Working with Amazon Web Services, 3M used AWS Application Migration Service and AWS DataSync as part of its cloud transformation program to move 2,200 applications and large volumes of data while managing complex, diverse workloads.

Amazon Web Services helped 3M complete the migration in 24 months across 51 waves, including a cutover of its largest ERP workload in under 20 hours. The result was more than 6,200 Amazon EC2 instances, faster resource deployment in minutes instead of weeks, and millions of dollars in compute savings, plus hundreds of thousands more from storage optimization.
