Abode Enhances Service Quality and Reliability Using Amazon Kinesis Video Streams

Abode, a smart home security company, needed a more reliable low-latency video streaming solution for its IoT devices and customer-facing camera systems. Using Amazon Web Services’ Amazon Kinesis Video Streams, Abode aimed to improve video quality, reduce startup delays, and strengthen security while supporting two-way communication between customers and their connected devices.

Amazon Web Services implemented a WebRTC-based solution through Amazon Kinesis Video Streams, enabling encrypted media streaming, easier hardware integration, and faster product development. The results were significant: time to first frame dropped from 7–10 seconds to consistently under 4 seconds, network latency fell to around 1 second or less, and stream success rates rose above 95%. AWS also helped Abode shorten production cycles, launch products faster, and add Alexa control for its security cameras.
