Abema TV - Customer Case Study

AbemaTV operates FRESH! by AbemaTV, a major Japanese streaming platform with roughly 1,400 channels and 37,000 programs. The company planned to run all FRESH! microservices as Docker containers, but while engineers used Docker and Docker Compose for local development, very few had experience deploying containers at production scale and there was no internal track record for operating a full‑scale container‑management solution.

AbemaTV adopted Amazon EC2 Container Service (ECS), moved from evaluation to a development environment in weeks and to full‑scale operations (with automatic task scaling) within two months, and developed a custom ecs‑formation tool plus CircleCI integration to deploy Docker Compose apps to ECS. The move reduced cluster management overhead, eliminated most environment‑consistency issues, improved system stability via ECS task definitions, and delivered over 99.9% service availability.
