Case Study: 8 Securities achieves up to 82% cost savings and scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure with Amazon Web Services

A Amazon Web Services Case Study

Preview of the 8 Securities Case Study

8 Securities - Customer Case Study

8 Securities, a Hong Kong startup that rebuilt investing around a social Trading Portal (beta early 2012, full launch April 2012), needed a cost-effective, reliable, scalable, and flexible infrastructure to support rapid growth and unexpected events. CTO Cedric Roll said the team required the ability to react quickly to unplanned events and access a pool of resources to ensure continuity.

8 Securities migrated to Amazon Web Services, running its portal and tools on EC2 Windows instances with Elastic IPs, EBS, VPC, and Elastic Load Balancing. The move delivered major savings (82% in the initial stage, 70% in beta, and 60% at market launch), reduced downtime risk, faster resource mobilization, and freed IT to focus on product improvements. The company is evaluating additional AWS services (ElastiCache, Direct Connect) and cites AWS’s maturity, stability, security, and ease of use as key benefits.
