Vivino - Customer Case Study

Vivino, the world’s largest wine app with over 22 million users, needed a scalable, automated infrastructure to support rapid global growth and to handle weekly and seasonal traffic spikes while delivering timely marketing. To manage its email and promotional outreach it used Amazon SES (alongside other AWS services) for sending sales promotions and communications to users.

Amazon SES was deployed together with Amazon SNS, Auto Scaling for EC2, S3/CloudFront, RDS and ElastiCache to enable continuous deployment, fast feature rollout, and high-performance content delivery. The solution allowed Vivino to absorb a 300% traffic surge over the holidays without disruption, cut significant engineering effort (avoiding more than 100 hours for caching), and use Amazon SES/Amazon SNS to send targeted promotions that accounted for about 85% of its 2016 revenue, reaching millions of users in seconds.
