A Amazon SES Case Study
Speed 3D, the Taipei startup behind the Insta3D mobile app, helps consumers turn selfies into purchasable 3D avatars but struggled with frequent service outages, global latency and incompatible third‑party infrastructure that threatened performance and rapid development. To address these challenges the company moved its Linux servers and image‑processing stack to AWS services — including EC2, ELB, S3, Elastic Beanstalk and Amazon SES for user notifications — to gain scalability and reliability.
By migrating to AWS and leveraging services such as EC2, ELB, Elastic Beanstalk (running Docker), S3 and Amazon SES, Speed 3D reduced image‑conversion time from about 10 seconds to under 5 seconds (a 50% improvement), achieved near‑100% uptime, scaled from a few hundred users to over 1 million, and has rendered more than 1 million digital assets (~5 TB) without additional server upgrades. Amazon SES is used to notify users when avatars are ordered and rendered, and the broader AWS adoption enabled faster deployments (new servers in under a minute), lower maintenance overhead, and sustained growth.
