A Amazon SES Case Study
Saturn Systemwares, an India-based IT services firm, built the Sabarimala Virtual Q Portal to help Kerala Police manage massive seasonal pilgrim traffic (peaks of ~3,000 booking requests per minute and millions of devotees). Facing extreme, highly variable demand that made on-premises infrastructure too costly, Saturn Systemwares moved the portal to AWS and selected Amazon SES for push notifications as part of its cloud solution.
Running the portal on AWS—using Amazon EC2, Auto Scaling, Amazon API Gateway with AWS Lambda, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch and Amazon SES for messaging—allowed Saturn Systemwares to scale on demand and “deep freeze” the environment off‑season. The Amazon SES-enabled deployment helped achieve 99.99% availability, supported about 7.5 million registrants, and cut operating costs by roughly 30% after adopting AWS Lambda despite a 42% increase in users, while simplifying billing for Kerala Police.
