Redfin Uses Amazon SES to Reliably Deliver Millions of Property Listing Emails Every Day

Redfin, a technology-powered real estate company, needed to migrate its high-volume email environment from internal SMTP servers to the cloud to improve deliverability, reduce costs, and save engineering time. To meet a tight one-year deadline, Redfin evaluated email platforms and chose Amazon SES for its monitoring, deliverability, and sender statistics capabilities.

Amazon SES enabled Redfin to move millions of daily property listing emails to the cloud, with emails now flowing through Amazon SES alongside Redfin’s existing AWS infrastructure and bounce/complaint handling via Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS. The result was reliable delivery of more than 20 million emails per day, peak sending above 1,000 emails per second, and a reported 99% deliverability rate on hundreds of millions of emails in August 2023, while also reducing engineering overhead and improving ISP-level deliverability visibility.
