PIXNET, a Taiwan-based social network, online photo gallery, and blog service provider, needed a cost-effective way to add cloud capabilities to its existing physical data center infrastructure without buying more hardware. The company chose Amazon Web Services, using Amazon S3 for logs and backups and Amazon EC2 to support its new face detection and recognition features at scale.

With Amazon Web Services, PIXNET runs about 50 EC2 instances in the AWS Asia Pacific Region to process 10 million photos per day, while also using Amazon SES to improve email delivery for service registration confirmations. Amazon SES helped increase successful email delivery and customer satisfaction, and PIXNET says AWS has improved agility, lowered costs, and helped it deliver products faster without physical hardware.
