A Amazon SES Case Study
KKBOX, a Taiwan-based music and content streaming and analysis service, faced major infrastructure challenges: its hosted data-center model required up to 50 servers and months to provision parallel Hadoop analytics, delaying reports by up to two weeks, and its on‑premises video-on-demand service struggled to meet KDDI’s performance and availability requirements at scale. To address this, KKBOX migrated to AWS, adopting services such as Amazon EMR, Amazon EC2, Amazon S3—and using Amazon SES for customer email communications.
By re-architecting analytics and the video platform on AWS (leveraging EC2, EMR, S3, ELB, Route 53, CloudWatch, SWF and Amazon SES), KKBOX reduced analytics turnaround from weeks to minutes or hours, can deploy hundreds of Hadoop nodes in minutes, and migrated one million users with no downtime. The move also cut video encoding costs by up to 50% and enabled scalable transcoding of thousands of HD videos per day, delivering faster insights, better availability, and significant cost savings using Amazon SES and other AWS services.
