Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office Makes Unbiased Charging Decisions with ScaleCapacity Generative AI Solution on AWS

Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office needed a way to comply with California’s Race-Blind Charging mandate by redacting race and other sensitive information from police reports before charging decisions were made. Working with vendor Amazon SES as part of an AWS-based solution, the office sought to automate this process without adding burden to attorneys or disrupting its existing case workflow.

Amazon SES helped implement an AI-driven redaction and case-processing solution using services such as Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Textract, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Cognito, and Amazon SES. The result was a production-ready system delivered in six months that automatically redacts sensitive data for about 17,000 cases per year, enables rule changes in under a week, and supports faster, more unbiased charging decisions with minimal training and workflow disruption.
