A Amazon Redshift Case Study
Foursquare is a location-intelligence company whose consumer apps and business solutions power insights from billions of check-ins and millions of monthly users. The company streams hundreds of millions of application logs each day and needed scalable, cost-effective analytics: its previous database incurred high annual licensing fees and consumed engineering time for maintenance, limiting the team’s ability to focus on strategic work.
Foursquare migrated analytics to Amazon Redshift with Tableau for querying, uses Amazon S3 for storage and EC2 (with AWS Direct Connect) for testing and low-latency legacy workloads, and can spin up ad hoc clusters as needed. The move eliminated significant licensing costs (tens of thousands of dollars annually), freed engineers for revenue-driving projects, and gave the company fast, flexible, and easily scalable analytics.
