Whooshkaa and Amazon Polly Combining Eyes and Ears to Widen Publishing Horizons

Whooshkaa, an Australian creative audio-on-demand podcast platform, helps publishers and advertisers reach audiences that prefer listening over reading. Facing demand from newspapers, sporting bodies and large enterprises to deliver news, live scores and other content as audio, Whooshkaa turned to Amazon Polly’s text‑to‑speech service to provide natural-sounding, multi-language narration (52 voices in 25 languages) and scale audio delivery for publishers and partners.

Using Amazon Polly, Whooshkaa automated conversions of text to audio via serverless workflows (AWS Lambda → Whooshkaa API → Amazon Polly → S3), powering use cases like The Australian’s five-times‑daily “Daily News” episodes and an AFL feed updated every two minutes for smart speakers. The Amazon Polly integration lets Whooshkaa produce fully automated podcast episodes from text in under 30 seconds, publish directly to podcast shows and platforms, and deliver live score updates to smart speakers — expanding distribution and enabling major customers (including a national newspaper, Telstra and sporting leagues) to reach listeners instantly.
