Using Amazon Polly to Provide Real-Time Home Monitoring Alerts

Y-cam Solutions, a provider of high-quality security video solutions, faced the challenge of delivering real-time, natural-sounding voice alerts for home alarm calls that scale and respond quickly so customers wouldn’t hang up. To replace a robotic, non-scalable TTS provider and improve user interaction, Y-cam Solutions adopted Amazon Polly for text-to-speech.

Y-cam integrated Amazon Polly to synthesize speech files (stored in S3) that are streamed to customers via Twilio calls, with AWS Lambda and API Gateway orchestrating the loop; Polly processes audio in milliseconds and supports multiple natural voices and languages. The result was faster, more natural alerts, better customer experience and improved scalability at low cost—reducing latency and the likelihood of callers hanging up—while Y-cam Solutions plans to extend voice controls further using Amazon Lex.
