How Amazon Polly Breathed Life into Dan Brown’s Digital Assistant

BeeLiked, a digital marketing platform, was asked by Doubleday (Penguin Random House) to build a campaign for Dan Brown’s Origin that would engage his six million Facebook fans with a unique, personal experience. The challenge was to create a scalable, intimate virtual book-signing with a natural British-accented assistant voice without pre-recording every entrant’s name, so BeeLiked used Amazon Polly’s text-to-speech service (the British English male voice "Brian") to deliver personalized audio.

BeeLiked integrated Amazon Polly’s SynthesizeSpeech API with SSML tuning for natural intonation, WebPurify name filtering, and a local MP3 cache, then passed the audio into their video renderer and voice-switching module. The result was a widely shared #DanBrownOrigin campaign that drew strong positive feedback—many users praised correct name pronunciation—prompted direct involvement from Dan Brown, reached his large fanbase, and was quickly repurposed for further campaigns, demonstrating Amazon Polly’s efficiency and scalability.
