Case Study: Supercell achieves scalable, high-speed game performance with Amazon DynamoDB

A Amazon DynamoDB Case Study

Preview of the Supercell Case Study

Supercell - Customer Case Study

Supercell, a Finland‑based mobile game developer founded in 2010, makes hit titles like Hay Day, Clash of Clans, and Boom Beach that serve tens of millions of players daily. To keep small, focused teams building great games, the company needed a cloud platform that could deliver easy‑to‑use, highly available and massively scalable infrastructure plus robust data pipelines and real‑time analytics to handle unpredictable spikes in concurrent users.

Supercell runs its entire stack on AWS—EC2 across Availability Zones, S3 (up to 10 TB of event data per day) and Glacier, ELB, CloudFront, ElastiCache, API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis (about 45 billion events/day), EMR, and DynamoDB—using CloudWatch, CloudTrail and the AWS API for monitoring and automation. The outcome is elastic, global capacity (thousands of servers on demand), fast analytics and live updates, smoother player experiences, the ability to expand into markets like China, and AWS support that lets developers focus on game design.
