Kik Interactive - Customer Case Study

Kik Interactive, maker of the Kik Messenger used by more than 275 million subscribers, needed to keep its messaging service fast, responsive, and highly available while turning hundreds of terabytes of log data into actionable product insight. To meet these challenges the company built a cloud-native, microservice architecture on AWS and used Amazon CloudFront to deliver content from edge locations closest to users, alongside EC2, S3, VPC, CloudFormation, Direct Connect and other AWS services.

Using Amazon CloudFront as part of its AWS stack, Kik improved latency and availability for users and scaled automatically during traffic peaks; the broader AWS solution enabled major analytics gains—Amazon Redshift cut data-warehousing costs from an estimated $1M to $100K (~90% savings) and a zero-cost Redshift upgrade produced a 30% performance uplift—while Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB accelerated data-driven personalization. Amazon CloudFront played a key role in making the app “super-fast and responsive” and supporting these measurable business results.
