InfoSpace - Customer Case Study

InfoSpace, a Blucora subsidiary that runs metasearch and monetization sites handling about 128 million queries per day, faced expiring colocation contracts, rising power and maintenance issues, and a looming $1.3M capital refresh. To reduce costs, improve global search response times for its partners, and handle large daily log volumes, InfoSpace chose AWS and adopted Amazon CloudFront as its content delivery network as part of a broader cloud migration.

InfoSpace migrated its Microsoft .NET search stack to AWS—using Amazon VPC, EC2, S3, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing and Amazon CloudFront—while automating deployments with AMIs and Chef and centralizing logs with Sumo Logic. The move was completed in six months, supported a >30% traffic increase, cut InfoSpace’s 2013 capital budget by 72%, improved international response times by ~20% and domestic by ~10%, and drove faster, automated deployments and projected operational savings (~32% reduction in 2014), with Amazon CloudFront helping deliver faster global performance.
