The customer, govCMS, the Australian Government's whole-of-government Drupal hosting platform, faced an unprecedented surge in web traffic due to the public's need for COVID-19 information. This placed a massive load on its websites, requiring their hosting provider, amazee.io, to manage an order of magnitude larger traffic volume than anticipated on its Lagoon platform.

amazee.io implemented significant enhancements to the Lagoon platform and its AWS infrastructure, including additional in-memory caching and new parameters for rapid scaling. This collaboration resulted in handling massive traffic, including a peak of 157,000 concurrent users on a single site and 1.96 billion hits per month, while maintaining a 99.9% SLA for high-profile sites and avoiding the need for expensive over-provisioning.
