A Altoros Case Study
TapMap, a start-up retailer platform, needed to synchronize retailers’ Point of Sale systems with an online account and provide daily-updated stock and pricing accessible to shoppers through free iPhone and Android apps that let users scan barcodes to compare prices. Altoros was engaged to build this web-based system, using a stack including Ruby on Rails, MySQL and MongoDB, to collect searches and scans and present data on a real-time visual map.
Altoros analyzed and optimized the application architecture and database connections, improving structure and scalability (using MongoDB for statistics and MapReduce) to deliver high-performance, real-time processing and minute-by-minute reports for retailers. The result was a far more scalable, responsive system that enabled real-time analytics and mapping of demand—helping TapMap win one of three awards at the International iEXPO 2011.
