SymHome needed a way to collect, store, and analyze massive amounts of household power-usage data without relying on paper bills, while also ensuring the system could scale from 1,000 homes to thousands more. Altoros was brought in to build the energy management platform, which had to handle petabytes of data, support device-, room-, and house-level analysis, and deliver accurate results across different time zones.

Altoros implemented symHome using Cassandra and Hadoop to enable highly scalable, real-time data storage and distributed processing. The system can now ingest 50,000 records every 15 seconds initially and scale to 200,000 records every 15 seconds as more homes are added, while providing instant reporting and detailed usage insights from web and mobile devices.
