ShoeDazzle, a California-based fashion and style service offering web-based personal styling and monthly "showroom" selections for members, faced severe performance and scalability challenges as its Ruby on Rails application served 4.5 million registered users and generated massive, simultaneous load when monthly showrooms were created.
