Global Virtual IT Infrastructure Provider - Customer Case Study

Altoros partnered with a global provider of automated IT management services that was constrained by a legacy .NET/RDBMS platform: slow performance, expensive scaling, and the need to store and query massive volumes of structured and unstructured data (targets included 2,000,000 tenants, 20,000,000 users, 200,000,000 machines, 40,000,000 support sessions daily and 50,000,000 files uploaded daily). Altoros proposed a cloud-native, NoSQL-based approach (HBase with Solr) and used Amazon EC2/Linux/Tomcat/Java to ensure compatibility with the existing .NET system while meeting availability and query requirements.

Altoros implemented the scalable HBase + Solr solution with denormalization patterns and validated a prototype on Amazon EC2; the production design runs on commodity hardware and delivers high availability, strong performance and lower cost than an in-memory Couchbase approach. The result is a cost-effective, horizontally scalable platform that meets the customer’s capacity goals and operational needs—supporting the stated millions-scale workloads and reducing reliance on expensive database servers.
