A Altoros Case Study

Preview of the Largest Construction and Maintenance Service Provider Case Study

Enabling Predictive Maintenance of Railway Switches

A leading rail construction and maintenance company (founded 1995, 2,500+ employees, €300M turnover) turned to Altoros to replace a legacy railway-switch life‑cycle system that lacked analytic capabilities. The customer needed data‑driven analytics and predictive maintenance to monitor key switch parameters, resolve inconsistent naming across traffic control systems, consolidate scattered data sources, and track train routes and loads.

Altoros implemented a .NET/Microsoft Azure solution with R, PostgreSQL, ArcGIS and QGIS components, adding a data‑mining tool that scraped 12,000 documents, normalized switch names, integrated government traffic data to track trains, and delivered dashboards for switch status and analytics. The Altoros solution—the first of its kind in Finland—automated switch management across 4 maintenance areas and enabled predictive maintenance for 2,420 railway switches.
