Building an Immutable Ledger for Storing Medical Records

The customer, a United Kingdom–based provider of B2B blockchain protocol implementations for healthcare, needed a decentralized, transparent, and highly secure way to store and manage electronic health records (including large X‑ray/MRI images and semi‑structured PDFs). They engaged Altoros to build a custom blockchain application (using Hyperledger Fabric v1.4) to integrate with existing EHR systems and give patients control over access while preserving privacy.

Altoros delivered an immutable, permissioned Hyperledger Fabric ledger with role-based access (patient, doctor, medical institution), per-participant keys, Fabric encryption, IPFS integration for high‑resolution files, optimized chaincode to prevent duplicate entities, and a notification/appointment system. The implementation produced a successful proof of concept that handles large medical files securely and transparently; after delivery the customer partnered with a Premier Member of the Hyperledger Foundation, and the solution can be customized for different medical institutions.
