Case Study: Leading European Airport achieves real-time passenger flow monitoring and accurate passenger‑vs‑staff identification with Altoros

A Altoros Case Study

Preview of the Leading European Airport Case Study

Building a Passenger Traffic Monitoring System

Altoros was engaged by a European airport that serves 36 destinations and handles about 3.3 million passengers a year to build a real‑time passenger traffic monitoring and analytics system for the security zone. The airport—originally designed for 2.6 million annual passengers—needed better insight into how long passengers spend in security and passport control to manage capacity; Altoros proposed a solution using its Altoros Analytics and Location Engine (ALE) alongside Aruba Networks probe tracking.

Altoros delivered a proof‑of‑concept that tracks Wi‑Fi probe requests via Aruba Networks, filters out MAC‑randomized devices to distinguish passengers from staff and passersby, and applies R‑based analytics with visualizations updated every 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. As a result, the airport can monitor and analyze passenger flow in real time for its 3.3M annual travelers, share analytics with security partners to inform staffing and operations, and operate with measurable metrics such as a 7‑minute security wait time.
