Case Study: Largest Air Cargo Carrier Company achieves real-time cold-chain monitoring at 10,000-aircraft scale with Altoros

A Altoros Case Study

Preview of the Largest Air Cargo Carrier Company Case Study

Building a Cold-Chain Delivery System for up to 10,000 Aircrafts

The customer, an air cargo carrier founded in 1923 and one of the largest in the Nordic and Baltic region, engaged Altoros to build a proof-of-concept cold‑chain monitoring system to support CEIV Pharma–compliant transport of temperature‑sensitive pharmaceuticals. The carrier needed real‑time sensor analysis, scalable processing across many aircraft and containers, and transparent access for manufacturers, warehousing and hospitals; Altoros recommended a microservices prototype using SAP Cloud Platform and Spring Boot.

Altoros delivered a three‑microservice solution with autoscaling, time‑series ingestion, asynchronous/parallel processing (Netty), anomaly detection, a RESTful API for partner access, and an inventory service; the prototype achieved 100 ms request latency, processed 3,000 sensors across 50 planes in the testbed and is architected to scale to 10,000 aircraft. As a result, the carrier gained real‑time monitoring and incident alerting with fewer false alarms, improved supply‑chain transparency, and progressed toward an MVP with further integrations (e.g., FlightStats and blockchain).
