A Altoros Case Study
A Belgian IT vendor that builds Ruby, RoR and JavaScript systems engaged Altoros to replace a slow, inflexible Silverlight app with a customizable Business Process Management (BPM) system to manage educational and administrative processes. The customer needed integration with Belgian governmental services KBI and DaVinci, offline availability with secure data handling, real‑time configurable forms and processes, and a white‑label product that could be adapted to other industries.
Altoros implemented two domain‑specific languages (for database structure and for inputs/views/tasks) using Jison and a CoffeeScript interpreter, added IndexedDB caching and offline sync with MongoDB (with encryption for personal data), and delivered features like Elasticsearch full‑text search, autosave, sharing of entities, and dynamic document previews. The system is now used daily by thousands of students, teachers and staff, saves the school tens of thousands of euros compared with traditional BPM/ERP suites, enables non‑programmers to configure processes, and produced a white‑label solution that opened additional revenue channels.
