A Cloud-Based Transport Management System Automates Daily Planning of Thousands of Orders

An Oslo-based provider of logistics and transportation software (founded in 1999) partnered with Altoros to replace its monolithic desktop transport management system and to develop a cloud-based transport management system and mobile apps. The customer needed smarter planning to maximize fleet load, correct vehicle assignment for temperature‑sensitive/fragile/inflammable cargo, real‑time vehicle tracking, and seamless synchronization with the legacy desktop TMS.

Altoros implemented a microservices-based TMS on Microsoft Azure (using Azure Service Fabric, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, .NET/C#, Angular and CosmosDB), developed automatic planning algorithms to maximize load and split orders, built a driver‑app API for real‑time tracking, and added certificate‑based authentication and legacy sync. The solution is used by about 100 logistics companies in Norway, automates tens of thousands of orders daily (up to ~1,000 orders per provider), increases vehicle load to ~100–120% and cuts operators’ effort by 70%.
