The Genetics Society of America, a publisher of two academic journals, sought to move beyond traditional impact metrics to help their authors demonstrate the diverse online engagement and attention their research receives. They partnered with Altmetric to integrate its altmetrics data and donut badges onto article pages.
By implementing Altmetric's service, the society provided its authors with immediate insight into the online conversation around their work. The solution was met with an enormously positive response from authors. Altmetric data enabled the internal team to monitor outreach efforts, shape strategy, and track over 14,000 mentions of their articles, including hundreds of blog posts, Wikipedia references, and mainstream media hits.
