Prayas Energy Group, a Pune-based non-profit focused on the energy sector, wanted to monitor power quality and availability across hundreds of villages and small towns in India so the data could be shared publicly and used to improve energy governance. The challenge was to build a low-cost, rugged, plug-and-play device that could accurately measure voltage and interruptions, transmit data every minute over unreliable 2G/3G networks, and never lose a data packet. Altizon provided its Datonis IoT Platform along with design-for-manufacture support for the connected monitoring appliance.

Altizon delivered a SaaS-based end-to-end solution using smart connected energy meters that could withstand wide voltage fluctuations, store up to 30 days of data, and retransmit when connectivity returned. Prayas Energy Group received secure access to Datonis APIs to build its own public portal, and the initiative has since gone live in more than 100 villages as part of a phased rollout. The result is a reliable, scalable system for monitoring rural power supply conditions in real time, with publicly accessible data at watchyourpower.org.
