Sea Changes with Bluefin Robotics and Altium

Bluefin Robotics, the autonomous underwater vehicle pioneer, faced major challenges coordinating electrical and mechanical design for its tightly constrained AUVs. Its old sequential workflow was inefficient and relied on cardboard models, making it difficult to fully visualize requirements. Bluefin used Altium Designer to improve collaboration and better manage the precision needed for vehicles operating in extreme underwater conditions.

Altium’s solution enabled true 3D integration between mechanical and electrical design through IGES and STEP file support, allowing Bluefin to bring mCAD and eCAD data into one workflow. With Altium, engineers could co-design in parallel, quickly generate more accurate designs, and achieve a better balance of performance, buoyancy, and reliability. The result was a faster, more effective design process with improved visualization and reduced design flow inefficiencies.
