Driving Greater Energy Efficiency with UNSW’s Sunswift Racing and Altium

Sunswift Racing, the University of New South Wales solar car team, faced the challenge of designing and competing with highly efficient vehicles for the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge while also educating the next generation of engineers. The team relied on Altium Designer to support its PCB and electronics design work as it built solar-powered hybrid cars like VIolet.

Altium helped Sunswift Racing improve productivity and reduce errors with features such as integrated supplier information, synchronized schematic-to-PCB updates, built-in footprints and symbols in part search, and 3D visualization for compatibility checks. The results included a 2nd-place finish in the 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and a Guinness World Record for lowest energy consumption in 2018, with Altium again cited as central to the team’s success.
