A Altibase Case Study

Preview of the China based Top Telecommunications Provider Case Study

The company replaced Oracle Exadata with Altibase for Billing and Order Support System (BOSS) in one of 33 provinces in China

China based Top Telecommunications Provider, the world’s largest mobile phone operator with operations across 33 Chinese provinces and over 900 million subscribers, faced critical billing challenges when its legacy Oracle Exadata platform could not keep up with rapid subscriber growth. The operator experienced stale data, inability to perform integrated, real-time billing at the customer access level, and service bottlenecks that prevented delivery of value-added features for customers. To address this, the company evaluated options and selected Altibase, deploying Altibase in hybrid mode for its Billing and Order Support System (BOSS).

Altibase implemented a hybrid in-memory/disk architecture and memory-partitioned tables so hot data stayed in memory while cold data moved to disk, enabling real-time processing and scalability. With Altibase, the province-level system now delivers accurate, real-time billing for 30 million subscribers, handles more than 2 billion transactions per day, eliminates batch processing delays, and supports non-stop billing via parallel/offline replication. Altibase also allowed replacement of Oracle Exadata with an x86 Linux shared‑nothing distributed platform, lowering TCO while improving performance, service flexibility, customer satisfaction and the company’s bottom line.
