Sportstoto is a government-regulated consignee of South Korea’s sports betting industry, run under the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and regulated by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism. Faced with a geometric rise in online gaming and strained IT after decades of growth, Sportstoto’s legacy on-disk DBMS became overloaded and inflexible, causing service interruptions and threatening a planned, high-transaction game launch. Sportstoto turned to Altibase for real-time data processing and scalability.

Since deploying Altibase (a hybrid in-memory/on-disk DBMS) in 2007, Sportstoto has used Altibase’s built-in HA, replication and hybrid features to deliver uninterrupted gaming services, lower TCO and scale operations. Performance improvements include 6.28× faster average processing (1,000 TPS), 7.34× faster game-info retrieval, 7.89× faster user-statistics retrieval, 4.13× faster refunding and 5.75× faster ticket issuance; Sportstoto also stores 2 TB of historical data on-disk with Altibase’s hybrid feature, eliminated a supplemental on-disk DBMS, and increased resource efficiency by 54% (reducing application processes from 200 to 130).
