SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile provider with over 26 million subscribers and a leader in LTE and next‑generation networks, needed a robust Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) to manage real‑time policy, QoS, deep packet inspection, subscriber management and charging across an all‑IP multimedia network. To meet rapidly growing subscriber and data demands (including VoLTE), SK Telecom selected Altibase’s hybrid architecture and PCRF solution to address the database and real‑time billing challenges.

Altibase implemented a hybrid in‑memory/on‑disk database for SK Telecom’s PCRF, keeping hot data in memory and cold data on disk to optimize performance and scalability. The Altibase solution delivers uninterrupted real‑time PCRF operations, processing 200 million transactions per day (up to 12,000 calls per second), supports online and offline charging that enabled new revenue streams, eliminated database bottlenecks for premium services, and provides 99.999% HA in an active‑active configuration.
