SK Planet adopts Altibase for its smart wallet beta service

SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom and Korea’s largest mobile content provider, launched a smart wallet beta in late 2010 using open-source databases. That approach caused repeated outages under concurrent load, lacked vendor support and enterprise features (scalability, disaster recovery), and drove TCO up, so SK Planet moved to Altibase and its proven database platform (building on a prior Altibase relationship with SK Telecom).

Altibase implemented its hybrid in-memory/disk architecture with Master and Standby DBs and provided 24/7 support. After deploying Altibase, SK Planet stabilized the smart wallet regardless of concurrent users, reduced CPU utilization by over 50%, increased service throughput from ~100 TPS to 700 TPS, and achieved reliable, scalable operations.
