Seoul Metro adopts Altibase for its subway traffic signal control system

Seoul Transportation Corporation, the public entity operating a 300 km subway network with 6.8 million daily passengers, sought to overhaul its subway traffic signal control system to improve safety and emergency responsiveness. The corporation required a relational database with the highest product stability, 24/7 operation with 99.999% availability, real-time data collection, automatic protection against abnormal shutdowns, strict SLAs, a proven track record in mission-critical deployments, and a solution within its IT budget—requirements that led it, after 2018 BMTs, to select Altibase.

Altibase delivered its in-memory hybrid DBMS, using in-memory real-time replication, move technology to tier stale data to disk, hybrid partitioned tables for large log sets, and HA/disaster-recovery features including active-active and active-standby replication. As a result, Altibase eliminated database-induced downtime, enabled real-time data collection and analysis, provided checkpoint image and redo-log backups, and demonstrated glitch-free operation in subway signal systems over the past 10 years—preventing data loss even on abnormal DBMS shutdowns while meeting the corporation’s availability and budget requirements.
