A Altibase Case Study
Samsung Securities, one of South Korea’s largest investment banks and securities firms, was losing revenue and clients because its Sybase DBMS couldn’t keep up with rising futures/options trading volumes — causing lost transactions, poor reliability, and difficulty acquiring new institutional customers. To solve this, Samsung Securities selected Altibase’s in-memory DBMS (Altibase) to replace Sybase.
Altibase implemented an in-memory deployment that was developed and deployed in two months by four engineers, immediately delivering real-time performance, five nines (99.999%) high availability via real-time replication, and a system 27× faster than Sybase (and 10× faster than other legacy databases). As a result, Samsung Securities restored customer confidence, added eight key institutional clients, now services over 15% of global institutional futures/options trading in Korea, and runs a highly available, nonstop trading platform with Altibase.
