A Altibase Case Study
Samsung Electronics adopted Altibase's hybrid in-memory DBMS for its Presence Service after finding legacy disk-resident databases unable to meet strict real-time, stability and no-data-loss requirements. The Presence Service must receive, store and distribute users' location and status with zero tolerance for interruption, handle complex real-time queries (redirection/proxying) and scale to large message volumes — challenges its legacy systems could not satisfy.
Altibase delivered an in-memory/high-performance solution with a hybrid disk tier and scale-out sharding, providing microsecond-level latency, very high throughput and cost-effective storage for historical data. As a result, Altibase enabled real-time collection and processing with improved service quality and stability, preserved session information across network/device changes, lowered TCO through hybrid storage, allowed adding services without costly hardware upgrades, and supported revenue growth from new location-based services.
