A Altibase Case Study
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) in South Korea, responsible for national transportation and spatial information, faced a fragmented spatial data landscape: multiple independent systems across utilities and regional agencies caused constrained access, duplicated spatial data, wasted storage and rising operating costs. To address its National Spatial Data Infrastructure and GIS needs, MLTM turned to Altibase and its hybrid database architecture to centralize and standardize geospatial services.
Altibase implemented a hybrid architecture that consolidated 114 unique spatial information databases into a single, non‑redundant system, giving MLTM Google Earth–like functionality and 24/7 access to aboveground and underground data. By enabling standardized spatial SQL and integrated data flows across national, regional and municipal users, Altibase improved data consistency, system reliability and application development capacity while significantly reducing redundancy and slashing total cost of ownership.
