LG Display switched from Oracle to Altibase for its real time flaw detection systems, resulting in 50% reduction in product loss and CPU resources

LG Display, the world’s largest LCD panel producer, struggled with inadequate quality control: multiple legacy on-disk DBMSs prevented per-unit, real-time defect tracking, delayed quality data from minutes to hours, and caused high scrap and falling yields. To fix this, LG Display switched from Oracle to Altibase and adopted Altibase’s hybrid in-memory/on-disk DBMS for real-time flaw detection and management.

Altibase implemented a consolidated, 2-node active‑active architecture with in-memory performance, on‑disk storage and built‑in synchronous replication (deployed on a 20‑core HP Superdome). The Altibase solution delivered up to 50,000 TPS for inserts, 10,000 TPS MOVE migrations, significantly reduced CPU usage (to ~10–20%), and produced a 50% reduction in product loss and CPU resources; LG Display now detects and remedies defects at the point of occurrence, improving yields, uptime and customer satisfaction.
