A Altibase Case Study
Korea Telecom (KT), South Korea’s largest telecommunications provider with over 40 million users, faced a failing legacy database for its Home Subscriber Server (HSS). The on-disk system could not cope with the HSS’s mobility management, authentication, authorization and service demands—causing high resource use, increased failures and latency—and KT needed a real-time solution able to handle millions of concurrent authentications and multi-device growth. Altibase was selected (after beating Oracle TimesTen) to address this challenge.
Altibase deployed its in-memory core database for KT’s HSS, delivering a robust platform for mobility, security and service processes. As a result, Altibase enables KT to authenticate up to 100 million times per day, deliver performance improvements by multiples over the legacy system, and provide superior complex-query performance and data durability versus Oracle TimesTen; Altibase is now the core database for many of KT’s other mission-critical systems.
