Case Study: KORAIL achieves real-time, non-stop centralized traffic control with Altibase

A Altibase Case Study

Preview of the Korail Case Study

Korea Railroad switched from Informix to Altibase for its centralized traffic control system to have its traffic quality control in real time

Korail (Korea Railroad), South Korea’s government-owned rail operator, needed to integrate two KTX control systems into its Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) while processing massive volumes of monitoring data in real time and ensuring continuous, non-stop operation on STRATUS servers. To meet those demands, Korail replaced Informix in 2010 with the Altibase DBMS for higher performance and real-time location data collection.

Altibase delivered a high-performance DBMS that supported real-time location data collection and non-stop service on STRATUS hardware, enabling Korail to monitor and control railroad operations immediately during normal and disaster conditions. The Altibase deployment minimized catastrophic consequences, reduced delays through faster and more accurate rail-car data management, improved customer satisfaction and confidence, and has been extended by Korail to other monitoring and control applications since 2010.
