A Altibase Case Study
Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), which manages 14 airports across Korea, needed a big data platform to ingest and analyze IoT-driven passenger and airport flow data, but its legacy DBMSs failed to meet core requirements. The legacy systems could not sustain the required minimum throughput of 100,000 transactions per second, lacked large-scale storage/processing performance, could not guarantee near-zero downtime, and needed compatibility with Hadoop — so KAC adopted Altibase for its big data platform.
After benchmarking and selecting Altibase over Oracle, Altibase implemented a hybrid in-memory database solution that delivered high throughput, low latency, strong stability and Hadoop interoperability, meeting KAC’s 100,000 TPS and zero-downtime requirements. With Altibase, KAC now collects and analyzes flight and passenger data in real time, can anticipate congestion, improve passenger convenience and safety, operate airport resources more efficiently, and offer new services such as shortest-route guidance in partnership with mobile providers.
