A Altibase Case Study
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), South Korea’s largest electricity producer, faced slow performance, high total cost of ownership and inadequate support from its legacy Oracle DBMS for its Communication Infrastructure (CI) system that monitors optical fiber networks. Oracle delivered only 200 TPS versus the 300 TPS required, with costly licenses and maintenance and slow incident support, prompting KEPCO to switch to Altibase and its hybrid in‑memory/on‑disk database solution.
Altibase’s hybrid architecture gave KEPCO in‑memory speed plus on‑disk storage for historical data, delivering 500 TPS (about 2.5× faster than Oracle), removing the need for separate on‑disk databases, and cutting TCO by 75%. KEPCO also benefited from competitive licensing and maintenance prices and improved support, and subsequently expanded Altibase deployment to additional systems after the initial rollout.
