Case Study: Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) achieves uninterrupted real-time on-air recording, playback and storage with Altibase

A Altibase Case Study

Preview of the Korean Broadcasting System Case Study

KBS adopts Altibase for high performance and has been fortified with a solution that could handle any increase in system demands. Altibase was chosen over SQL Server

Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), the largest of South Korea’s four major multimedia networks, was struggling with a legacy on-disk database (SQL Server) that could not meet growing on-air demands for fast recording, playback, storage and data transfer. KBS needed higher throughput, real-time responsiveness, stability and high availability, so it selected Altibase to replace the failing system.

Altibase implemented a hybrid-mode deployment with built-in active-standby replication and its native Aexport tool to enable fast, reliable data movement. As a result, KBS’s digital audio file system now operates in real time without performance degradation regardless of rising demand, reports no run-time HA issues, and has been fortified by Altibase since 2003 — a success that has encouraged other broadcasters to adopt Altibase.
