A Altibase Case Study
Mezmo, a U.S.-based, FCC-approved Telecommunication Relay Service provider that operates the InnoCaption app for the deaf and hard of hearing, faced growing database challenges when MySQL could not keep up with increasing subscribers and services. They experienced performance degradation, lack of real-time updates for subscriber, billing and log data, manual batch processes, instability and heavy dependence on MySQL add-ons, and needed a solution that would scale without major hardware investment, migrate easily from MySQL, remain relational, and run well in Amazon cloud environments.
To address this, Mezmo adopted Altibase in 2014 as its core database. Altibase’s hybrid architecture (in-memory for recent, frequently used data and on-disk for historical data) delivered the required performance and reliability, enabling real-time updates, straightforward migration from MySQL, and cost-efficient scaling. As a result, Mezmo avoided performance degradation as subscribers and services grew, reduced data-processing and update costs compared with equivalent hardware upgrades, and is now expanding use of Altibase for big data analysis based on three years of proven performance.
