China Telecom, the second-largest mobile service provider in China with over 250 million subscribers, needed a more cost-effective, reliable Account Balance Management (ABM) solution for billing and CDR processing. Dissatisfied with Oracle TimesTen’s high pricing and poor technical support, China Telecom evaluated leading in-memory databases — Oracle TimesTen, IBM solidDB and Altibase — to find a better vendor.

China Telecom selected Altibase to deliver an in-memory DB offering data durability, high performance with low latency, high availability and lower TCO. Altibase implemented active-standby replication, migrated existing ODBC applications in under a month, and provided industry-leading support; the result was fail-safe, non-stop billing, reduced downtime, and virtually unlimited scalability (Fujian subscribers grew from 6.5M to 10M without notable system load or degradation).
