Case Study: World’s Largest Mobile Telecommunications Provider achieves cost-effective, linear scale-out for massive subscriber data with Altibase

A Altibase Case Study

Preview of the World’s Largest Mobile Telecommunications Provider Case Study

Altibase's sharding enables the world's largest mobile telecommunications provider to have its big data at its fingertips

World’s Largest Mobile Telecommunications Provider, China’s top telco with over 900 million subscribers, faced exploding data volumes and new service demands that made vertical scaling impractical and expensive. After testing options, the World’s Largest Mobile Telecommunications Provider selected Altibase’s sharding — a scale‑out relational database — to preserve its existing relational applications while enabling horizontal growth.

Altibase implemented a shared‑nothing, scale‑out sharding solution that supports full ACID, standard SQL/APIs and telecom OLTP workloads (billing, authentication, OCS, PCRF). As a result, the provider can add inexpensive commodity servers and achieve linear performance scaling without coordinator bottlenecks, keep existing servers and applications, use online rebalance to extend shards automatically, and maintain low-latency, high-availability operations — all at a small fraction of the cost of high‑end vertical scaling.
